Understanding ourselves:
an introduction to Transactional Analysis
A workshop by Tony Saddington
Transactional Analysis (TA) is a simple and effective way of understanding ourselves. It provides us with a set of “tools” which help us to understand how we communicate with others, how we spend our time and how we can change our relationships and life patterns. TA offers us ways of understanding how we have been shaped by our past, how to engage in the present and how to support positive change. TA was developed by Eric Berne in the 1960’s, yet his work remains useful and popular today. Berne’s book (Games People Play) and Thomas Harris’s I’m OK - You’re OK continue to be reprinted and sold.
In this workshop we will examine the key features of TA and discover how they relate to ourselves. The course will include both short lectures as well as structured exercises to understand the theory and how TA can be used in our own lives.
The course will give insights into:
- understanding ourselves
- communicating with others
- ways of spending time
- psychological game-playing
- understanding our basic life positions
The workshop will be run experientially and includes both individual and small group work. Active participation is encouraged.
